Temporary Visas
These visas permit employers operating lawfully in Australia and overseas to utilise approved skilled workers in specific occupations required in Australia to fill temporary vacancies. Note that temporary visas often provide a means of securing an eventual permanent visa.
Subclass 457 – Business (Long Stay) visa – Standard Business Sponsorship
This program offers employers the opportunity to sponsor approved skilled workers to work in Australia on a temporary basis. Employers can nominate a number of positions for different occupations under the one sponsorship application.
This applies to Australian Industries, Groups or employers who wish to recruit a number of skilled workers to work in Australia on a temporary or permanent basis over a number of years.
Medical Practitioner visa (Subclass 422)
This visa offers overseas doctors an alternative to the Subclass 457 – Business (Long Stay) visa, who want to register to work in Australia, especially in rural or regional areas. Employers will need to lodge individual sponsorship applications for each doctor sponsored.
This visa relates to representatives of overseas businesses and suppliers of services, entering into or negotiating agreements to supply their services to Australia under the General Agreement on Trade and Services (GATS).
Permanent Visas
Lawfully operating Australian employers are able to sponsor skilled workers from overseas to work in Australia in particular occupations considered to be required in Australia.
Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 121/856)
This scheme allows lawfully operating Australian businesses and employers to recruit overseas workers on permanent visas to work in Australia in full time highly skilled positions which are unable to be filled from the Australian labour market.
Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 119/857)
This scheme allows lawfully operating businesses and employers in regional Australia to employ skilled overseas workers in positions which cannot be filled from the local Australian labour market.
