Business (Long Stay) Visa (457)

Overview

This program is the most frequently used means of employers sponsoring overseas skilled workers to work in their Australian businesses on a temporary basis. Under the Subclass 457 visa program, there are no longer any distinct arrangements for employers in regional areas in Australia from September 14th 2009.

Employers may be either Australian businesses or overseas businesses.

Visa Entitlements

This visa entitles you to employ overseas workers for a period of not less than one day and not more the four years.

This visa entitles those persons you employ from overseas to:

  • work in Australia for a period of between one day and four (4) years
  • bring with them to Australia any eligible secondary applicants. Secondary applicants are able to work and study in Australia
  • enjoy unlimited travel in and out of Australia for the period of their temporary employment

Eligibility

Eligibility requirements for this visa need to be satisfactorily met by all parties involved in the 457 program.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How much will it cost to lodge a visa application?

A. You will need to pay a Visa Application Charge (VAC) upon lodging your visa application. This charge is payable to the Australian Government. All charges are non refundable (in all but exceptional circumstances) regardless of whether your visa application is ultimately granted or not. Because visa application fees are non-refundable, subject to certain exemptions, it is vital that you receive correct advice right from the start of the migration application process – this will save you time and money.
