Australian Permanent Resident entitlements?

Q. What does becoming a Permanent Resident of Australia entitle me to?

A. Becoming a permanent Australian resident entitles you to the same rights and benefits as all Australian citizens. If your permanent resident visa is granted, you will be able to:

  • Live in Australia permanently
  • Work in Australia without limitation. Note - this does not include employment within the Commonwealth Public Service nor the Armed Forces.
  • Study in Australia without limitation
  • Receive a Medicare Card. You will need to apply for this and provide evidence of your permanent resident visa status.
  • Receive Australian social security benefits based on your financial, family and work status. Note – in most cases a two year waiting period (beginning from the date you were granted permanent resident status) applies before you will be entitled to claim social security.
  • Become a sponsor for other family visa applicants wanting to migrate to Australia. Note – you must meet specific requirements to become an approved sponsor.

Testimonials

Last Year Melissa Haag and her associates helped me and my wife in gaining permanent residency in Australia.

I had already spent 2 years on a 457 employer sponsor visa and wished to gain permanent residency via an employers sponsorship 856.

Melissa’s expert knowledge and her professional approach ensured that we received our permanent residency in the quickest time that was permissible.
