General Skilled Migration (GSM) Points Test Review

Last Updated on Wednesday, 03 August 2011

The Australian Government has decided to review the current Points Test that applies to General Skilled Migration Visas (GSM). The review is intended to evaluate the effectiveness of the current system and to ensure that the Points Test continues to support the goals of Australia’s migration program by selecting high quality visa applicants with skills needed by the Australian labour market both now and in the future.

This review of the GSM Points Test will be undertaken during the first half of 2010. A discussion paper is available for viewing on the Department of Immigration and Citizenship website and is open for public comment and suggestions until 12th March 2010. The Government will consider all recommendations made. Please click the below pdf file link for more information and to view the open discussion paper.

Whether or not the Government will decide to introduce changes to the current GSM Points Test remains to be seen. If changes are made, Haag Walker Lawyers will ensure all clients are made aware of when such changes are to take place and who specifically they will apply to.
