State Migration Plan - SA Planning Levels Reached

Last Updated on Tuesday, 02 November 2010

In an announcement on 21 October 2010 the South Australian Government advised that planning levels had been reached and State Sponsorship under their intended State Migration Plan in a number of occupations.  The occupations no longer available for State Sponsorship on the interim South Australian State Migration Plan list are as follows:

233211 - Civil Engineer

261313 - Software Engineer

261312 - Developer Programmer

261111 - ICT Business Analyst

261112 - Systems Analyst

233513 - Production or Plant Engineer

After being the first of the Australian States to release details of their State Migration Plan and process applications based on their intended sponsorship list, a rush by applicants to secure a Sponsorship place under a State Migration Plan has seen demand for South Australian state sponsorship quickly exceed the number of positions available.

Prospective Australian Immigration applicants in the above occupations who delayed in making their State Sponsorship application to South Australia will now have to wait for the 2011/2012 program year or pursue an Off List nomination if they wish to be considered for South Australian State Sponsorship under a State Migration Plan.

Based on current Australian Immigration processing guidelines, Australian visa applications sponsored under a State Migration Plan receive priority processing by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.  These priority processing guidelines, together with the significantly reduced number of occupations on the Skilled Occupation List for skilled migration from 1 July 2010, means that State Sponsorship under a State Migration Plan is now highly sought after.

As demonstrated by the South Australian scenario, prospective Australian immigration visa applicants should expect that demand for State Migration Plan sponsorship places will continue to outstrip the number of places available.  Applicants hoping to obtain sponsorship under a State Migration Plan should therefore act swiftly to apply for State Sponsorship as soon as States release details of their anticipated State Migration Plan lists to avoid missing out on sponsorship altogether.
