New Points Test Table Summary | Australian Skilled Migration

Last Updated on Thursday, 02 February 2012

Subject to the commencement of supporting legislation, it is proposed that the new points test will apply to the following skills visa applications from 1 July 2011:

Under the existing points system, each general skilled migration visa subclass has an applicable points pass mark.  For example, a 175 Skilled - Independent visa currently has a pass mark of 120 points, whereas a 176 Skilled - Sponsored visa has a 100 point pass mark.

It is expected that the pass mark will be set at 65 points for each of the above General Skilled Migration subclasses under the new points test. The introduction of a universal pass mark will end the existing pass mark distinction between independent and sponsored visas and permanent and provisional visas.

Under the new points test, skills visa applicants will be required to have a combination of skills and attributes to be eligible for migration under Australia's General Skilled Migration Program.

It is intended that the proposed re-formulation of the points test will ensure that no single factor guarantees migration under Australia's General Skilled Migration Program.
