South Australia's Revised State Migration Plan 2011-12

Last Updated on Thursday, 06 October 2011

South Australia has finalised the revision of its State Sponsored Migration List (SSML) for the 2011-2012 program year.

Summary of Changes to South Australia's (SA) State Migration Plan

Following is a brief overview of South Australia’s changes to its State Sponsored Migration Plan:

  • 28 occupations have been added to South Australia’s SSML
  • 69 occupations have been removed from South Australia’s State Sponsored Migration List (SSML) as they are no longer regarded as being in significant shortage.
  • All 69 occupations removed from South Australia’s State Sponsored Migration List have been moved to its 'Off-List' of occupations. South Australia is able to sponsor a limited number of skilled visa applicants for occupations listed on its Off-List for Permanent 886 and 176 State Sponsorship. Off-List occupations must also appear on the Department of Immigration & Citizenship’s (DIAC’s) State and Territory Skilled Occupation List (SOL). Generally, study in South Australia is required to be eligible to nominate for sponsorship under an Off-List occupation.
  • Some International English Language Testing System (IELTS) requirements have changed as a result of the recent update. It is important to first check your occupation's requirements to properly ascertain your eligibility for State Sponsorship.
  • Where no IELTS requirement is listed in respect of your nominated occupation, you must still be able to satisfy DIAC’s IELTS requirement as well as the skills assessing authority (i.e. the authority which completes your Skills Assessment Application).

As part of the recent changes to South Australia’s State Sponsored Migration List, some 'off-list' criteria and 'special conditions' have also changed:

  • If you are a recent international graduate who studied in South Australia, you should check South Australia’s off-list criteria carefully.
  • If you are a recent international graduate who studied in South Australia, you should check the "special conditions apply" criteria. Some occupations have requirements that you must satisfy in addition to all other sponsorship requirements in order to be eligible for South Australian Government State Sponsorship.

Testimonials

Last Year Melissa Haag and her associates helped me and my wife in gaining permanent residency in Australia.

I had already spent 2 years on a 457 employer sponsor visa and wished to gain permanent residency via an employers sponsorship 856.

Melissa’s expert knowledge and her professional approach ensured that we received our permanent residency in the quickest time that was permissible.
